The goal of this project is to examine the effectiveness of road diet conversions on transportation safety while maintaining adequate traffic flow. In cooperation with our planning partners and other stakeholders, this project has identified guidelines for the conditions in which road diets are appropriate to accomplish the goal of increasing safety while preserving mobility. This is documented in Road Diets: Primer and Municipal Implementation Tool #16, Road Diets which discusses - what is a road diet, its effects and guidelines for application. This document showcases the feasibility assessment of select locations in the region for road diet application. An objective of this project is to show that the concept can be applied in many other projects and programs, and included in the toolbox of strategies for corridor studies and congestion management.
