This study was conducted at the request of the Delaware County Planning Department to analyze potential public transit improvements between the proposed Wawa Regional Rail Station and the Painters Crossroads area. The Painters Crossroads area is experiencing high levels of commercial development, and with the proposed extension of the Media/Elwyn Regional Rail line improved public transit service to the area is possible. Existing development and mobility conditions were assessed and various scenarios for improving public transit services were explored and presented. Ultimately, the need to better accommodate public transit usage in the study area through dense, mixed-use development and investments in pedestrian infrastructure was found to be a major impediment for improving public transit services. This study can be used by decision-makers when the Media/Elwyn extension is imminent to determine the appropriate level of public transit service connecting the two termini that is warranted.Geographic Area Covered: Chadds Ford Township, Concord Township, Chester Heights Borough and Middletown Township; Delaware County
Key Words: shuttle bus, pedestrian facilities, employment centers, public transit service, journey-to-work
