Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Week is designed to raise awareness of the importance of safe and reliable travel options for all and to encourage employers to adopt TDM practices that help reduce the carbon footprint of their employees’ commutes and reduce the need for on-site parking.

September 15-19 is National Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Week. This year’s theme is “Advancing TDM Through Policy.” TDM Week is designed to raise awareness of the importance of safe and reliable travel options for all and to encourage employers to adopt TDM practices that help reduce the environmental footprint of their employees’ commutes. TDM strategies may include employee subsidies or tax-free dollars for the use of transit and vanpools, preferred parking for carpoolers, the installation of bike racks at or near work sites, and implementing flextime, telecommuting, and other similar measures. These benefits can help businesses and local governments compete for talent, reduce roadway demand during peak hours (which helps move freight through our region more efficiently), and make our communities cleaner and greener.

During TDM Week, DVRPC and our partner Transportation Management Associations (TMAs) will be celebrating and promoting the positive benefits TDM has in our communities. To learn more about TDM, follow the hashtag #TDMWeek across social media platforms. You can also learn more about local TDM options by viewing DVRPC’s TripSmart PA webpage.
