Housing Submarkets Provides Picture of Housing Affordability in Greater Philadelphia

February 26, 2024

DVRPC recently launched a new tool to better understand the state of housing affordability in Greater Philadelphia. The regional housing submarket analysis is designed to help establish a common understanding of complex housing issues and inspire conversations about the ways that local governments can improve the variety and affordability of housing within their jurisdiction.

To better understand the state of housing affordability in Greater Philadelphia, DVRPC has released a regional housing submarket analysis. Housing Submarkets is designed to help establish a common understanding of complex housing issues and inspire conversations about the ways that local governments can improve the variety and affordability of housing within their jurisdiction. It divides the region into eight housing submarkets based on characteristics such as sales price, structure type, and household tenure. Municipalities can use this targeted information to customize their own housing strategies and identify communities around the region with which they share similar housing challenges and opportunities.

Housing Submarkets is a product of DVRPC’s Regional Housing Initiative, an ongoing research project designed to help our planning partners better understand the housing challenges they face. By providing housing data, guidance, and technical assistance, DVRPC aims to support municipalities in designing and equitably implementing local regulations to expand the supply of housing, increase housing affordability, and improve racial equity within communities.
