The DVRPC Board has awarded $7.9 million to ten local projects in Southeastern Pennsylvania through the Regional Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TASA). The federal program funds community-based "non-traditional" projects designed to strengthen the cultural, aesthetic, and environmental aspects of the nation's intermodal transportation system. Selected projects include trail, sidewalk, pedestrian improvements, and on-road bicycle improvements.

DVRPC Approves $8 Million for Bicycle and Pedestrian Projects in PA
(Philadelphia, PA) – The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) has awarded $7.9 million to ten local projects in Southeastern Pennsylvania through the Regional Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TASA).
The federal program funds community-based "non-traditional" projects designed to strengthen the cultural, aesthetic, and environmental aspects of the nation's intermodal transportation system. Selected projects include trail, sidewalk, pedestrian improvements, and on-road bicycle improvements. In addition to this funding round, there are 15 additional projects worth $11.3 million, which will be recommended for funding through a Statewide TA selection process in spring 2022.
“These ten projects will enable communities to build multi-use trails, safe routes to school and pedestrian pathways, and bike lanes and bikeway projects, providing more transportation options throughout our region,” said Barry Seymour, DVRPC Executive Director. “These awards include important investments in the Circuit Trails, the region’s planned network of more than 800 miles of multi-use trails.”
The Regional TASA selected projects and funding are listed below.
Bucks County
- Newtown Rail Trail Phase 2 Bristol Road to Churchville Nature Center ($650,000) - 1.7-mile extension of the Newtown Rail Trail into Northampton Township.
- Route 332 & Tyler Park Connection ($825,000) - 10-foot paved multi-use trail connecting Tyler State Park to existing trail network.
Chester County
- Toughkenamon Streetscape Improvements ($965,000) - 1000 feet of sidewalk along Main Street and Newark Road.
- Moores Road Sidewalk ($500,000) - Complete a sidewalk gap and ADA crossings between Conestoga Road (SR 401) and Church Road.
Delaware County
- Highland Avenue Complete Streets ($1,135,000) - Multi-use path, sharrows, and sidewalk improvements on Highland Avenue connecting Rt 291 and the Riverwalk Trail, a part of the East Coast Greenway.
- Smedley Connector Trail - Phase 1 ($450,000) - On-road bike facilities and signage in downtown Media Borough.
Montgomery County
- Main St. East to Ruth Road Sidewalk Connections ($985,000) - Sidewalk connection along SR 63 between Main Street and Ruth Road.
- Liberty Bell Trail - Phase 3 ($600,000) - Off-road trail between 9th Street and Tremont Drive in Lansdale Borough.
Philadelphia County
- Franklin Square Pedestrian Access P2 ($850,000) - Curb realignment, concrete sidewalk extensions, upgraded ADA ramps, realigned crosswalks, and a concrete buffer for the existing parking-protected bicycle lane on Race Street.
- Overbrook Educational Center Slow Zone ($985,000) - Speed cushions, bumpouts, and other traffic calming devices surrounding Overbrook Educational Center.
