Held annually on the fourth Saturday of April, the day celebrates the nation’s trails and promotes wellness, an appreciation of the outdoors, and active transportation.

Join walkers, runners, cyclists, and others in celebrating our region’s trails on Saturday, April 25. Created by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy in 2013, Celebrate Trails Day is held annually on the fourth Saturday of April. The day celebrates the nation’s trails and promotes wellness, an appreciation of the outdoors, and active transportation.

DVRPC assists municipalities, counties, and others throughout the region in the planning, design, and construction of trails for all to enjoy through our Regional Trail Program’s investment in the Circuit Trails–Greater Philadelphia's 800-plus-mile network of multi-use trails. The Circuit Trails network not only provides access to the region's rivers, creeks, and streams, but it also allows safer and more efficient travel by bicycle or foot between homes, businesses, parks, schools, and community centers, all free from motorized traffic. DVRPC’s commitment to making trails happen is part of our vision for the region’s transportation system—one that is safe and modern and fosters greater opportunities for all. The long-range plan for Greater Philadelphia, Update: Connections 2050, calls for the completion of the Circuit Trails.

DVRPC’s Board recently approved $17.5 million to 12 local projects in Pennsylvania through the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) Program, including $8.2 million for five Circuit Trail projects in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties. In 2025, NJDOT and DVRPC allocated $3.5 million to three projects in Camden and Mercer counties from New Jersey’s TASA program and provided $200,000 to study two different segments of the Delaware River Heritage Trail in Burlington and Camden counties through the Transportation and Community Development Initiative (TCDI).
