Get to know Manager of the Office of Procurement and Contracts Jason Crouch.
What did you want to be growing up?
A pilot. My grandmother was a screenwriter in LA. On return trips to the Midwest, she would gift me with a new die-cast plane, pilot wings, and airline-branded card decks. So I became an AvGeek at an early age, with model planes hanging from the ceiling, lining the shelves, a dedicated workspace…the whole deal!
What was your first job?
In middle school, I was a Coke vendor at college football games. (Ever tried making exact change in front of thousands of disgruntled fans?!) I quickly learned that commercial banking was not in my future.
What is your favorite part of working at DVRPC?
The work-life balance culture. If you’ve ever experienced the inverse, you’re all the more grateful for DVRPC’s.
What is your work/life philosophy?
It embodies contentment and aligns with something Alain de Botton once said, “I learnt to stop fantasizing about the perfect job or the perfect relationship because that can actually be an excuse for not living.”
What actor would play you in the movie version of your life?
Larry David, without question.
What is the last book you read?
Principles: Life & Work by Ray Dalio
What are the top 3 places you want to travel to?
Scotland, Turkey, and Cyprus
Are you a cat or dog person?
Cat person…imagine Edward Gorey in all his glory!
What is the most meaningful item in your house?
A handwritten, end-of-life letter from my grandmother. In it, she distilled her greatest life lessons to a few pages. As I’ve gotten older, it’s become a personal barometer.
