In this meeting, we will learn from the experiences of Chester County as they responded to the closures of Jennersville and Brandywine hospitals and discuss how Chester County’s strategies can be applied across the region.
Join us on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, for a joint meeting of the Healthy Communities Task Force (HCTF) and Transportation Operations Task Force (TOTF) on the regional impact of hospital closures and the strategies employed to mitigate their effects. In recent years, hospitals across the Greater Philadelphia region and the country have closed or downsized, often reducing communities' access to healthcare. In this meeting, we will learn from the experiences of Chester County as they responded to the closures of Jennersville and Brandywine hospitals in late 2021 and early 2022. We will discuss how Chester County’s strategies can be applied across the region and what the region can do to address this issue.
Representatives from the Greater Coatesville area and Chester County will share their experiences in a panel discussion. Panelists include:
- Harry Moore, Deputy Director of Chester County Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
- Jeanne Franklin, a representative from the Chester County Health Department
- Kevin Ressler, CEO of the Alliance for Health Equity
They will share how the hospital closures affected emergency medical services response, how the county health department worked to address critical healthcare gaps, and how a focus on community wellbeing can mitigate additional demands on a strapped healthcare system.
This meeting is taking place in person at DVRPC’s Offices (190 N. Independence Mall West, 8th floor, Philadelphia, PA, 19106). Coffee and registration begins at 9:30 am and the event starts at 10 am. Following the meeting, lunch will be served. Register to attend Responding to Hospital Closures Across our Region.
