by Jonathon Alexander, Planning Fellow

September 20, 2024

The meeting featured presentations from DVRPC planning staff who introduced the region’s Long-Range Plan and the development of the Work Program. The workshop ended with breakout rooms where residents were able to provide feedback on the Work Program and brainstorm new project ideas for their communities across the region.

On September 10, 2024, DVRPC’s Public Participation Task Force (PPTF) hosted an online workshop on the DVRPC Work Program (UPWP), which determines the planning projects that DVRPC staff will undertake to meet the region’s changing transportation and planning needs. The meeting featured presentations from DVRPC planning staff who introduced the region’s Long-Range Plan and the development of the Work Program.

DVRPC Director of Transportation Greg Krykewycz's presentation familiarized residents with the Work Program process by breaking down federal and non-federal funding sources and how funding is used to address regional planning priorities. He provided a guide for residents reading the work program document for the first time and shared new staff ideas and input from the 2024 DVRPC Board retreat.

The workshop ended with breakout rooms where DVRPC planning staff and PPTF members facilitated discussions with residents to provide feedback on the Work Program and brainstorm new project ideas for their communities across the region. Examples of projects project ideas and input shared within the breakout rooms included:

  • Safe and reliable public transportation for suburban neighborhoods that connect to work and play;
  • Safe Streets improvements in Burlington County;
  • Expanding ADA accessibility at SEPTA stops in Bucks County; and
  • Encouraging transportation project collaborations across municipalities.

The Public Participation Task Force would like to thank our DVRPC Staff and PPTF members for facilitating this community-focused conversation: MaryAnn Sandone, Delaware County; Richard Whiteford, Chester County; Judith Fagin, Philadelphia; Alexandra McNally, Philadelphia; and Jerrett Johnson, Philadelphia.
