Job Description
DVRPC is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the greater Philadelphia urban area, responsible for coordinating transportation planning throughout the nine-county region. The Office of Travel Trends and Forecasts uses DVRPC’s regional travel model to evaluate the impacts and benefits of regional policies and transportation investments. The intern will assist DVRPC’s engineers with data collection and model development.
Responsibilities
- Travel to study sites throughout the City of Philadelphia and assist with data collection
- QA/QC the data
- Maintain an Excel spreadsheet of project data
- Assist with the development and testing of regression models using R software
- Assist with project documentation and the production of study report
- Perform related work as required
Qualifications
- Be familiar with the City of Philadelphia and be able to independently navigate to and from study sites
- Have good interpersonal skills and be able to interact with the public, residents, and employees at study sites
- Ability to work in small teams, under the direction of more senior staff
- Knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel
- Knowledge of Linear Regression
- Knowledge of the principles of Trip Generation is desired.
- Knowledge of GIS software is a bonus
Availability
This position requires a commitment of 15 hours per week. Some days will be spent in the office, and some days will be spent out in the field collecting data. On the days we are collecting data, this position requires the intern to be at the study site from 6:00 to 10:00 AM in the morning, and from 3:00 to 7:00 PM in the afternoon.
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Education and Training
Must have completed at least THREE YEARS of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's program (preferred), or an equivalent combination of experience and training, plus substantial experience, interest, or involvement in transportation engineering and planning.
