Energy and Climate Change Intern

Job Description

DVRPC's Office of Energy and Climate Change Initiatives leads, supports, and coordinates efforts to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in the Greater Philadelphia region.  The Office of Energy and Climate Change Initiatives is seeking one intern for several projects during the fall of 2020.

The intern will primarily support three DVRPC projects: (1) research electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure ordinances at local levels in Pennsylvania and New Jersey; (2) assist in gathering and organizing data for DVRPC’s Energy Use and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory; and (3) research how various municipalities administer and collect appropriate fees for public electric vehicle charging infrastructure.  These activities will be carried out under the supervision and guidance of Office of Energy and Climate Change Initiative staff.

The intern may be assigned to assist with additional projects, depending on office needs and the interests of the intern.

Responsibilities

For the above projects, the intern will be asked to collect, compile, and analyze information, including numeric data; assist in the development of written reports and web content; and help prepare for and host events with stakeholders from around the region. The intern will participate in project meetings and carry out tasks identified in those meetings.

Qualifications

  • Interest and background or training in energy and/or climate change issues.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Able to perform independent research and gather data from objective/reliable sources.
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Ability to work independently and highly motivated

Availability

This position requires a commitment of up to 15 hours per week.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Training

Must have completed at least THREE YEARS of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's program (preferred), or an equivalent combination of experience and training, plus substantial experience, interest, or involvement in transportation engineering and planning.
