Job Description
DVRPC's Offices of Planning Innovation and Livable Communities are seeking one intern for the spring of 2024 to play a crucial part in enhancing the availability of data for municipalities. This role will contribute to building the presence of better information for municipal partners within our Data Center by:
- Evaluating existing datasets to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
- Extracting charts/tables from published DVRPC reports within Livable Communities and other existing products.
- Working with Planning Innovation to ensure proper documentation of sources/methodology of the data.
Candidates who are detail-oriented with a keen interest in research and data gathering, as well as analytical skills, are encouraged to apply. Individuals who can demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (specifically Excel, including Pivot Tables) and GIS for data management and analysis are particularly suited for this position.
Qualifications
- Passion for research and data gathering.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and problem solve.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, GIS, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Familiarity with SQL (PostgreSQL) or data analysis in R/Python is a plus.
- Knowledge of U.S. Census Bureau data and other publicly available sources.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of Greater Philadelphia.
- Ability to work independently (remote work is available)
Availability
This position requires a commitment of 12-15 hours per week.
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Students with Work-Study preferred.
Minimum Education and Training
Must have completed at least THREE YEARS of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's, or an equivalent combination of experience and training, plus substantial experience, interest, or involvement in planning.
