Camden City, NJ: the $10 million reconstruction project of 27th Street included widening the road and installing a south side parking lane with two-way travel lanes, new curbs, handicap ramps and sidewalks, paving alleyways, sewer and stormwater upgrades, and a new traffic signal at the intersection of Berkley Street. The street was also dedicated to Mike Rozier, a former NFL player and Heisman Trophy winner who grew up locally in East Camden.
Philadelphia, PA: The half-mile long U.S. 1/Roosevelt Expressway viaduct between the Broad Street and Wissahickon Avenue/Germantown Avenue exits in the Nicetown section of Philadelphia has been fully reconstructed. The viaduct passes over SEPTA’s Wayne Junction facilities and several surface streets, including Germantown Avenue, Wayne Avenue, Clarissa Street, and Roberts Avenue. The $95.5 million project also includes several other improvements that are listed on PennDOT's Project Information Page.
Philadelphia, PA: SEPTA's historic trolleys that provide service from Port Richmond to West Philadelphia along Route 15 on Girard Avenue have returned after four years of restoration. The trolleys’ new upgrades include new floors, windows, wheelchair lifts, and HVAC units. This work was completed simultaneously with PennDOT's I-95 improvements to Richmond Street, including new SEPTA Route 15 trolley tracks, painted crosswalks, and ADA accessible ramps. SEPTA's Westmoreland Loop trolley/bus station was also reconstructed, including new pavement, bus shelter, trolley platforms, stormwater management, perimeter wall/fencing, and landscaping.
Delaware County, PA: The Delaware County Planning Department is working on a county-wide Vision Zero Action Plan to help build a safer transportation system for everyone using the Vision Zero framework which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries and ensure safe, healthy, and equitable mobility for all residents. Although data-driven, a significant part of the Vision Zero Action Plan is robust community engagement and collaboration with County residents, including input gathered through the Safety Ambassador Program. Through this program, the Delaware County Planning Department partnered with 15 community members to act as Safety Ambassadors and spur engagement by hosting neighborhood meetings, tabling at a local community event, coffee chats, walk audits, intercepting surveys, leveraging social media for spreading the word and collecting personal stories.
Falls and Bristol Townships, Bucks County: The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (DLNHC) is an organization that preserves historic industrial transportation routes and is repurposing them as a multiuse trail, known as the D&L Trail. Falls and Bristol Townships were awarded a $100,000 Transportation and Community Development Initiative (TCDI) grant to study safety improvements at six D&L Trail Crossings in and near census tracts with above average totals of housing units without access to vehicles. The D&L Trail is also part of the Circuit Trails network and the East Coast Greenway.
