Public Involvement
Public InvolvementThe Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) plans for the orderly growth and development of the bi-state region. We were created in 1965 under a compact between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The legislatures worked together to redefine our structure, authority, purpose and administrative procedures. Under federal laws requiring the formation of a metropolitan planning organization, (MPO) for urban areas with a population of more than 50,0000, DVRPC was designated as the MPO for the nine county region. The Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA 21) has since expanded our transportation planning authority and responsibility. Our goal is to satisfy the broadest constituency possible by fostering cooperation among member governments, private sector organizations and the general public. To do so, we work closely with a wide variety of groups, including the Pennsylvania and New Jersey departments of transportation, community affairs and environmental protection agencies in these two states, the federal government and regional transportation providers. DVRPC has two forums for your involvement in our process: Regional
Citizens Committee (RCC) -meets monthly to review and comment on DVRPC
policies and plans. This open avenue of communication gives us the chance
to hear your voice, your ideas and concerns on major decisions that will
affect the way you live, work and travel. The RCC includes approximately
75 members representing the private sector, social service agencies, environmental
activists and other interest groups. Committee membership is open to anyone
who wishes to join. Regional Citizens CommitteeThe Regional Citizens Committee (RCC), which meets monthly to review and comment on DVRPC policies and plans, is advisory to the Commission Board. This opportunity for communication gives us the chance to hear your voice, and your ideas and concerns regarding major decisions that will affect the way you live, work and travel. This is also an open invitation to you to join the committee at any time.
